Attic Moisture Condensation

The first signs of a condensation problem in your attic might show up during a re shingle on your roof.

Fixing this issue can be less costly than replacing a roof but it should be addressed as soon as possible. A thin layer of moisture versus large water droplets can mean the difference between a future major roof repair or not. If there are signs of rot on the roof sheathing then there has been prolonged moisture in the attic. Condensation on your ceiling can cause water damage and promote the growth of mold or mildew.

Looking for signs of moisture. In the winter the condensation will form frost and in the summer this condensation can grow mold. This can result in mold rust and deterioration of wood and structural fasteners. Water found in these places is commonly caused by condensation in the attic.

Most people assume this is caused by a leaking roof but that might not be the source. You can prevent these problems from occurring by maintaining a dry attic with a low relative. What you don t expect to find however is water. Improper ventilation and insulation of home attic space can produce high humidity levels and trap.

If left untreated it can damage critical structural elements of the home such as the trusses and rafters ruin insulation damage any stored belongings and lead to the formation of potentially toxic black mold. As the moisture migrates upwards to the colder attic areas during the winter months the relative humidity is increased to the point that condensation can occur on cold surfaces.
